We had a wonderful stay at this charming country house hotel. the Christmas decorations and cozy ambiance created a festive atmosphere, complemented by the stylish furniture and fabrics. the rooms were beautiful and the large bed was especially spacious and comfortable. the tartan rug on the bed added a touch of Scottish charm. the breakfast was amazing, with a wide selection of delicious foods and a particularly well-prepared cooked breakfast. the staff were friendly and helpful, making our experience even more enjoyable. we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Macdonald. Cons: Can honestly say there wasn't anything not to like! 😊.

Luxurious rooms, delicious food, and friendly staff. The suite we stayed in had a beautiful four poster bed and a spacious bathroom with a separate bath and shower. The food in the restaurant was out of this world, with amazing flavors. The staff were always friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

Location, historical building, size of rooms, dinner, very friendly staff
Breakfast buffet a bit poor; winding paths and many stairs to the room (due to the ancient building)

Nice place... Beautifully secluded, from where beautiful hiking and walking paths start.
Very expensive restaurant, but not necessarily the most unusual food. It was good but, like I said, very expensive. For a four-star hotel, no one to help with the bags. Dirty menu cards

The hotel is in a relatively remote location and yet it has a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Staff were all very friendly. Food though expensive and of the nouvelle cuisine style, was beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and surprisingly filling. This is the second time I have stayed here and I would emphatically recommend it. I was on business and opted for it because it was one of very few hotels in the area. It was definitely a world away from my normal accommodation, and all the better for that. My room as on the previous occasion, was sumptuous, beautiful elegant modern bathroom with a bath and a separate shower big enough for two people to share. Large comfy double bed.
It is quite easy to get lost trying to find the place even with Sat Nav. Bit it is well worth the effort. In fact be warned that the Sat Nav and indeed the road signs tend to take you on an unnecessarily circuitous route in order to make sure you arrive at the hotel via a very long drive. There is a much shorter route into the hotel from the A96 which I think is probably reserved for deliveries.

The value for money at this hotel was excellent, and we were really impressed with the beautiful room we had. The location was stunning, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and the staff treated us so well.
The breakfast experience could have been better if there were some small biscuits provided on the hospitality tray.

It was not over renovated. Seemed to be an authentic castle with a few frayed carpets and paint work required here and there. Good room service menu. Good breakfast.
Check out was painfully slow (45 minutes) and the bills were wrong.
